Performance and Recitals

The RCM is committed to providing a broad spectrum of performance opportunities for students. Recitals, Christmas Concert, Federation Festival, Featured Composer Festival, Art Song Festival, Sonatina/Concerto and Ensemble Festival, foster goal-setting, self-confidence, poise and pride in one’s achievements.

PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS

In order to prepare for these opportunities, we offer performance workshops throughout the year. The workshops are intended to foster a sense of ease and comfort when performing in front of an audience. Each class lasts 50 minutes. We strongly encourage all students to attend all workshops. A piano accompanist is provided. Students must attend at least 2 Performance Workshops during the semester to be eligible to perform in a Semester Recital. The second Performance Workshop will determine readiness for the recital. Prepared students only are permitted in recitals. Dress is casual and the atmosphere is informal. Sign-up sheets are posted in the lobby 2-3 weeks prior to each class.

COMPOSER, CHRISTMAS, SONATINA/CONCERTO, ENSEMBLE and ART SONG FESTIVALS

These festivals devote special attention to one composer or style. Each festival consists of an adjudication and an Honors Recital. Students may enter as many festivals as they wish. Applications will be available through your teacher or order on-line at rochesterconservatory.com. Solos and Ensembles are permitted in all Festivals.

FEDERATION and ACHIEVEMENT TESTING

These festivals are opportunities for more intense testing like ear training, improvisation, theory, sight reading and technique. Students earn points toward trophies.

RECITALS

The RCM sponsors formal recitals which are open to the public.

SEMESTER RECITALS

All private students are expected to perform in these recitals which occur in the fall and spring. Students must attend at least 2 Performance Workshops during the semester to be eligible to perform. A piano accompanist is provided.
